Tips for Maintaining your Garage Door
Most of us use our garage doors multiple times a day. With more use, you will need to maintain your garage door for it to continue to work smoothly. It is very important that you pay attention to its condition and how well it works to keep it working and in good condition. Always inspect your garage door for any dents or scratches on the outside that would affect its functioning and would have to replace it too early.
Here are some things that you can do to keep it in good working condition:
1. Check the balance:
If your garage door is unbalanced it will struggle opening and closing. The door may still continue to work, but the unbalanced weight will eventually cause the door to stop working. Check your door’s balance, by stopping it half-open. A well-balanced door will stay still. If it falls, it needs to be repaired.
2. Maintain the rollers of your garage door
Most garage door rollers will last for years since they are made of durable materials. But you need to check them often to see if you need to replace them. Replace them if they have rust or are worn out in places to keep your garage door working smoothly.
To replace the rollers, if needed, just remove the brackets attached to the rollers and put in a new roller, and replace the bracket.
3. Check your garage door cables:
Keep checking your garage door cables to ensure they are in good condition. The more you use your garage door the more wear and cables can fray and snap.
4. Listen and look
Do you have any of these issues as you open and close your garage door?
• Scraping or grinding sounds
• Shaking or vibration
• Your garage door stops before it opens or closes completely?
If you do then there may be a serious problem with the door’s motor or other part. You will need to get an expert to check and for maintaining your garage door.
5. Replace Worn Insulation
If the weather-stripping sealing your garage no longer sticks to the door it should be replaced.
6. Adjust the Sensors
Test your garage door sensors with an item to make sure they are working properly for your safety.
