How To Fix A Garage Door That Doesn’t Open Or Close

Most Common Reason Garage Doors Stop Opening Or Closing
The way that garage doors work is there is a motor that is attached to a chain. This chain pulls the door when you hit on the button to trigger the engine to start running.
There is one more part of this equation. Along the racks that the garage door rolls on as it is raised up and down are a pair of sensors. Optical sensors are designed to detect any obstacle blocking your garage door path to the ground.
When these optical sensors detect an obstacle, they send a signal that blocks the garage door from operating. This is typically the most common reason why garage doors cease to function.
Check The Sensor Alignment Of Your Garage Doors
Anytime your garage doesn’t open or close, the first thing you should do is check the Sensor alignment.
If the sensors have been blocked, most of the time it will be by an object obviously in the path of the sensor. You need to take the object and remove it from the sensors’ line of sight.
After the object has been removed, the garage door should start to function normally again.
Sometimes there could be something else causing the sensors to be miss identifying the garage door as locked. The sensors need to be aligned properly, so they detect each other. If something has knocked them out of alignment, then the garage door will not function no matter what. You will need to carefully realign the sensors on opposite sides of the garage door so they reconnect.
Once they have reconnected, your garage door will be good as new.
Check the Rollers
If it is not the sensor, check to see if it is the rollers getting caught on something. Sometimes the screws for the rollers are too tight and are scraping against the track. This is an easy fix as they just need to be loosened and ensure that they are on the track.
