All the parts of a garage door
Are you familiar with all the parts of a garage door? If not, then it’s high time you learn about these parts. Besides securing your car from the elements, today, you can control most of these doors remotely. Knowing all the garage door parts is essential, especially when you need something fixed or replaced. In addition, you’ll be able to know precisely where the problem is coming from in case you experience challenges with your garage door. So, here are all the leading names to identify in a garage door.
Door Opener
When you push the button to open the door, this part receives the same signal from your remote and switch. The motor in it produces the energy required to put the door on the motion.
The springs
The energy produced by the door opener is not sufficient to lift the garage door. Therefore, the spring does the heavy lifting whenever you’re lowering or raising the door. There are two types of springs, extension, and torsion.
• Extension springs
They get their energy when you stretch them, and there are not so common like their counterpart.
• Torsion springs
These are the most common springs with garage doors. They sit above the door and get their energy from being twisted, and most importantly, these springs are long-lasting and safer.
The tube shaft
Tube shafts are on doors that use torsion springs. They hold the springs in place to allow the transfer of torsion power to the drum to raise the door.
Drums
Drums are located at each end of the torsion spring, and as the door moves up and down, the drums roll, which in turn causes the cables to move.
Cables
These cables run vertically on each side of the garage door, with each cable connecting to the drum at the top and to the door at the bottom. The cables are responsible for transferring the force from the springs making the heavy door easier to lift.
Track and rollers
These two components work hand in hand to make the door run in the right direction. The rollers are very tiny wheels located at each end of the door, and they fit well into the track. These wheels create the path that the door takes when closing or opening. When the door comes out of this track, then you can’t move it.
The door’s retainer
Retainers come from different materials, plastic, aluminum, or metal. They hold the bottom seal intact as they run along the bottom of the door.
Bottom seal
The bottom seal is also one of the garage door parts that are pretty important. It protects the whole mechanism from getting damaged. It keeps pests, blowing snow, insects, and other destructive objects from the door system.
Safety sensors
The system comes with safety sensors so you can monitor it and prevent accidents from happening. This is because garage doors are large and heavy, and anything can happen if not installed correctly.
