The Importance of A Garage Door Safety Sensor
A safety sensor is an important part of an automatic garage door. In fact, all openers for the garage doors made since 1993 must have a safety sensor used in it. Any automatic door opener that does not have a safety reverse mechanism sensor won’t be in the down position. They are designed specifically to protect people from being injured by the door when it’s closing. This safety mechanism is especially important when children and pets are in the home. The garage door safety sensor usually works by automatically reversing the garage door’s course when it comes in contact or senses an object or person when it’s closing.
People’s safety is important, and therefore, you must check to ensure the garage door safety sensors are working properly.
How the Safety Sensors Operate
A garage door sensor has one main component called the safety eyes of the photo-eye reversal system. The two lenses are attached on opposite sides of the garage door tracks. They connected to the garage door opener motor and are about six inches off the ground. There is a small laser beam that shoots between the sensors. If the beam is interrupted, it will automatically reverse. Garage doors can pose a threat to children and animals alike. If the safety sensors aren’t working properly, there are things that you can do to fix it before calling a professional.
• Align the safety eyes – If the garage door starts closing and retracting, it means the safety eyes need an alignment. Aligning them is easy. Try aligning the safety eyes before taking them out; sometimes, that is all that is needed to fix the problem.
• Check the wiring – Because the wiring in most garages is exposed; it can be loosened by movements in the garage. You can connect the wires, and your problem will be solved. However, if it is damaged, you will have to get a professional to fix it.
• Look for any debris – the garage safety sensors cannot be obstructed. If the tiniest debris is in the way, the sensors will not function properly.
