How to Program Your Garage Door Opener
Programming your garage door opener is not difficult. However, without the right guidance or knowledge, it can be a bit confusing. The information to follow will help you to avoid that confusion and to successfully program the remote for your garage.
Be aware that this information is available in the owner’s manual that you received when purchasing your garage door. Of course, situations arise, such as power outages or other emergencies, when you simply don’t have time to track down your manual. No problem! Everything you need to know to program your garage door opener is below.
First of all, for safety, make sure that the area around your garage door is clear of people, especially children, or pets, just in case of an unlikely door malfunction while the programming process is underway. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Also, it is very important that, while you are completing the following steps to program your garage door, you place the remote for your garage door opener at least two feet away from the opener. By keeping the remote at this distance during programming, you will be allowing for the coding of the correct frequency into the remote. If you do not keep the remote at this distance from the opener while programming, you will prevent the opener from correctly programming, and you will need to complete the steps again with the remote at the required distance.
The first step to complete when programming your garage door opener is to locate the Learn Code button on the opener. In order to gain access to this button, you will need to remove the lens cover on the motor of the opener. This lens cover is located in the area of the light bulb on the opener. Once the lens cover is removed, you will be able to see a button labeled Learn Code.
The next step is to press the Learn Code button. Once you have pressed the Learn Code button, the LED light on the button will begin blinking rapidly. This blinking will continue for up to 30 seconds and will stop after you have pressed the particular button on the remote that you are attempting to program.
Once you have completed these steps, your opener will be programmed, and the remote for your garage door will be operating. If you have additional garage doors that also need to be programmed, simply repeat these steps for each of those doors.
